Japanese Paper Films Presents at the Smithsonian

On Sunday, September 13th, Professor Eric Faden’s Japanese Paper Film project traveled to Washington D.C. to offer a showing of recently completed films at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art with live musical accompaniment by Yoko Reikano Kimura on koto and cellist Hikaru Tamaki of Duo Yumeno.

Professor Faden engaged in a lively Q&A with members of the public — which included, of course, many D.C.-based alumni. Students Jackson Rubiano (Computer Science ’27) and Yara Polusmak (Film/Media Studies ’28) were on hand to speak with alumni before and after the screening.

This screening continues the project’s tour with recent shows in Italy, Japan, Australia, and across the U.S. including the Museum of Modern Art, Yale University, and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Next month, the program travels to Italy and Portugal.
