The Japanese Paper Film Project
The Japanese Paper Film Project preserves 1930s Japanese films that were made on paper instead of celluloid. Few of these rare films have survived and those that have are too delicate to project. This interdisciplinary Bucknell project brought together faculty and students in Film/Media Studies, Computer Science, and Engineering to build a custom scanner for digitizing the films and code bespoke software for restoring and reanimating the films. The project has saved close to 300 films and regularly tours a program to venues around the world.
Radical Buddhist Project (RBP)
The Radical Buddhist Project (RBP) is an independent digital humanities initiative functioning as a dual-purpose scholarly resource: a comprehensive text archive and a contextual encyclopedia. The project is dedicated to recovering, preserving, and analyzing the historical intersections of Buddhist doctrine with radical socio-political thought.
Écrans Francophones — Albertine Cinémathèque at Bucknell University
Professor John Westbrook (French & Francophone Studies) recently received a grant from the Albertine Cinémathèque initiative to launch a film series at Bucknell University. The films will be screened at the historic Campus Theatre in downtown Lewisburg.
